After 34 years as a member of the Department of Psychology at the Stony Brook University, State University of New York, Ronald Friend retired to Portland Oregon in 2003 only to be recruited by the late Dr. Robert Bennett to assist in the revision of the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR/SIQR). Since then, Dr. Friend has continued his research collaboration with Dr. Bennett, and Dr. Kim Jones of the School of Nursing at the Oregon Health and Sciences University, as a member of the Fibromyalgia Research Unit. His research has covered a broad range of topics in psychology, including gender bias in the diagnosis of CHD. He has coauthored a widely used social anxiety scale. Dr. Friend received his PhD from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1969.
